Foça ( Phokaia ) is a lovely little coastal town is located at about 70 km northwest of Izmir province, on the Aegean coast.
The town is one of the most popular vacation places of İzmir with its blue flag beaches and healthy Aegean cuisine.
The Eski (Old) Foça, is also called as Foça . The district also has a township named Yeni (New) Foça where many summer houses are located.
Old Foça is worth seeing. The town is always lively and crowded with people especially on the weekends . Take a walk along the shores of the Küçük Deniz bay, take a look at the medieval castle, historic windmills are called yel değirmenleri and enjoy lunch or dinner at one of the many fish restaurants there.

The family owners and their daughters are very polite and smiling people. We were very well hosted. The breakfasts were really prepared with care and the foods made with love at the old stone house with garden.

Wine History of Phocaea
The town was known as Phocaea or Phokaia which was ancient city of metropolis.
There were Phoenicians who live in today’s Foça borders. Wine called vino in the old days by ancient people of Foça.
As I heard about vine’s history from local people of Foça, the people who made the first vines were Phoenicians. The vineyard that they started in Foça, then spread to the Southern. The Phoenician traders also brought vine plants and viticulture and winemaking knowledge to the Mediterranean.
